My running partners(Beth & Tonya) & I were driving the 2.5 hours to Fargo & spending the night.

After a carb loaded lunch we hit the road. We had been hydrating all day do there were a couple of stops along the way.

We pulled into West Fargo to a friend's house. She was such a wonderful host. She had it arranged so we each had our own room & bed. She made sure we each had fresh flowers in our rooms & gave us each a welcome basket full of good stuff for us & some candy too. ;)

We(including our host) were running the 5k that evening so we changed into running gear & headed to the expo to pick up our race packets & get the first run out of the way.

5k start time was 6:30. The temperature at start was around 95* & humid. Add to that 9500 excited people. Good times. I ran about half & walked the other half. The best part was the sprinklers homeowners along the route had turned on for us.

Official Time: 41:51

We grabbed water & got the heck out of there to find some food.

The rest of the evening was spent stretching & gabbing & packing bags for the next day.

Saturday morning we woke up early to start on our water & get some breakfast in our bellies. The weather was cloudy & cool. Perfect. We left with plenty of time to get to the Fargodome, check out bags, get stretched, visit the spiffy biff, & get to the start line. Cue the blinking sign telling marathon traffic to take 12th. And there we sat in traffic for an hour. We saw runners getting out of the vehicle they were in and run to the gas station to use the bathroom. :) As we saw the start time approaching I started having an anxiety attack. I rolled down my window and started trying to take deep breaths of the fresh air. Beth & Tonya were trying to talk me down. We saw the start time come & go while sitting there.

Finally we got parked & speed walked to the starting area. I got my bag checked & we stretched & went to the bathroom. They were starting to line up the marathon runners. We made our way to the front & talked to someone who just told us to go. Our chips wouldn't start until we crossed the line & the marathon course was different than the half.

We hugged each other & Beth & Tonya took off. They run about 11m/m. It was strange running all by myself. At the same time it was nice because that's how I'd done all my training runs. We didn't have to jockey for position & go around walkers.

By about the 1.5 mile mark I started catching the tail end of the field. The first person I passed was a disabled veteran using the assistance of crutches to walk. As I ran by I said thank you. That was the first cry of the morning.

At that point I started catching more people. I can't remember my exact stat on how many people I passed. After mile 2 we crossed the Red River & into Minnesota. Yep, we ran in 2 states that day. I was pretty happy to cross back into ND though. It was pretty boring on the east side of the river. As I came up on mile 4 I got a text from my sister asking what time I started. I tried to send her a text back using voice text. This is what I got:
"That 730 but Windows Vista started about 20 minutes late and I haven't a website that you contact my mama"

By now I was at mile 4 so I checked my time & I was doing great keeping my goal pace. Pace was still good when I passed the official time clock at the 10k mark. Then we headed into downtown Fargo.

Want to hear a huge brag of mine?? I ran the entire first 8 miles!!! That's huge for me. I did a mostly run/walk form of training. I walked at water stops & that was all. I feel like shouting that from the top of the Capitol building.

Here comes the bad part...around 8.5 miles I started walking. I think all of my adrenaline from the earlier panic attack wore off. :( Every time I tried to run after this point I was in pain & immediately out of breath. I just kept forcing myself to walk as fast as I could. I made a bargain with myself that I would run the last 5k. I made it about a half mile & couldn't do it. I had a big ball of something in my gut so I stopped & waited at a port a potty. While waiting I let a huge fart fly. I felt better. ;)

After that I still did a lot of walking. Some running here & there. I checked my time at 11 & saw I was still on track to hit my goal time but it would be very very VERY close. This part of the course was also very boring.

When I saw the Fargodome, that housed the finish line, I started wogging. I turned towards it & started running. I turned & saw the 13 mile marker, fist bumped it, started crying, & ran a little faster. I crossed this finish line knowing I missed my goal time but not by much.

I moved to the medal area & got my bling then moved into the food line. I grabbed a water, chocolate milk, half banana, & a piece of cheese pizza. I found a spot to set my stuff & attempted to eat. I managed to get the banana & half the milk down. I took 1 bite of the pizza & stopped. I wasn't hungry at all.

I met up with my friends for hugs & pics then I stretched. Beth was sitting with me & telling me how happy se was for me & she asked how I felt. My response was "I don't know." I wasn't happy or sad, just mentally & physically exhausted. I apologized to her but she understood.

We went back to the house to shower & decompress a bit. At lunch I forced myself to eat a burger. Then Tonya & I hit the road for home. We made sure we stopped a couple times to stretch. Even doing that I was hurting when I got home.

It's taken me most of the week to process the whole experience. I'm happy. I'm totally fine with my time & I'm proud of myself. I enjoy talking about it. I've inspired others around me to start running. I've had comments from people that have made me cry happy tears.

I don't think I'm a "multiple halfs per year" kind of girl but....I WILL do this again. :)
One week down!!

I didn't do too bad this week. I got a head cold/sinus thing last week which kept me from going to the gym, but I got a couple days in. I went to muscle work class last night and then did 20 minutes on the elliptical for my "Last Chance Workout."

Goal Check-in:
*Lose 10lbs this challenge--Week 1 and I am down 3.
*Water Water Water--I did pretty good with this since I was trying to flush the cold out.
*Calcium--YIKES! Not one day this week did I remember to take my Viactiv.
*Gym Routine--Still working on this.

I feel like I overate 2 or 3 days this week. Mostly just leftover holiday treats. I know I ate 4-5 popcorn balls in one night and washed them down with a nice glass of Bailey's. ;)

We are getting back into the swing of things with school and work. I need to menu plan and organize so I'm not rushed in the evenings trying to figure out dinners and then rush to the gym.

On to week 2! :)Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-1916737670815580432010-12-29T11:26:00.000-06:002010-12-29T11:26:39.383-06:00The Power of One
I wish I had a way with words, but I just don't.

The new year is starting soon and I want to get back to focusing on myself. As much as I can with a husband and 3 kids. It's time to make ME a priority again.

I've lost part of myself with the birth of each of my children. I think this is normal because your life will never ever be the same as it was before having kids. To me it's trying to find the new "normal." My 3rd child was born 6 months ago. I'm still struggling with finding the "new normal" around here. Hopefully this challenge will help me in the right direction.

Goals for this challenge:
* 10 pounds gone FOREVER
* Water Water Water
* Calcium. I'm nursing and I don't drink milk. I need to remember to take my calcium supplements each day.
* Try to find a gym routine that works for me and works for my family.

There you have it. Hope you don't sneeze from all the dust blowing around. I will get out the vacuum later and hopefully get rid of it. ;)Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-67942223704541622702009-08-04T15:45:00.003-05:002009-08-04T15:54:53.854-05:00Well this is awkwardSorry, didn't mean to leave y'all hangin'. Lately I just haven't felt like I had anything of use to say. Really, who wants to just listen to my daily activities. Which this summer included tennis, tball, traveling, & parks.

We are in back to school mode here at our house. The Boy is gearing up for kindergarten. We were at the school today buying uniforms and paying tuition. The Girl will be attending preschool at a local daycare 2 1/2 days a week starting after Labor Day while I go into the office.

I ran my first 5k race this last weekend. I had a goal of under 35 minutes and I can in at 35 minutes & 23 seconds. I can handle that because I did walk some. I had some lofty goals for starting to train for a 10k but I have decided to stick with 5ks for now and just work on speed. I am so so so proud of my dad. He ran his first half-marathon on Saturday. He will be 60 in a month!!!

We put over 3000 miles on our van in just over a month earlier this summer. We spent some time with family in SW Wyoming and Yellowstone. Then my little brother got married in Rapid City, SD. Now we are thinking about going to Madison, WI over Labor Day weekend to see my sister and her husband.

I'm so boring and I really have nothing more to talk about. :)Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-31172760711305352292009-05-27T17:07:00.002-05:002009-05-27T17:14:33.274-05:00*tap tap tap* Is this thing on?So I am not neglecting this thing. I just haven't felt like have had anything to write about lately. Just in a funk I guess.

The Boy finished school last week. There was a little preschool celebration program. The next day we attended "step-up" at the school he will attend in the fall for Kindergarten. When it was our turn I cried.

We had a nice long weekend. It was rainy and dreary on Sunday and Monday but we spent some family time together.

In just a little bit we will be hitting the road for our little vacation. We are headed to SW Wyoming for the high school graduation of the Husband's cousin. The Husband and I plan on finishing up the 6th Harry Potter book that we have loaded on the Ipod. When we come home we are going to go through Yellowstone National Park.

Next week we start tennis and baseball. I should have some interesting stories from those experiences. :) Next week also starts the summer health challenge at my work. YEAH!!

Better finish packing!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-5556093906742321972009-05-12T13:13:00.003-05:002009-05-12T13:22:01.923-05:00Mountain DewI have not drank a full Mountain Dew in AGES. I loved the stuff when I was growing up but then I switched over to Coke and Cherry Coke. The Husband loves Dew and if I am desperate I will have a couple sips of his.

Well, have any of you tried this? This is the Mountain Dew of my youth. The first 2 ingredients are water and sugar. There is no high fructose corn syrup to be found. Probably a good thing it is only going to be around for a few weeks. It definitely has a different/better (IMHO) flavor.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should buy a bunch of cases of this stuff so I can get a Dew fix every once in a while? I would have to hide them from the Husband though. :)

I better go and get a few things done while on my sugar induced high before I crash in about an hour.Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-60122761476512775942009-05-11T14:26:00.004-05:002009-05-11T14:35:47.586-05:00I'm now on the other sideIt doesn't feel any different. Was it supposed to feel different? I think someone forgot to flip the switch on Saturday...

I am talking about my 30th birthday. I was actually kind of looking forward to it. I made jokes about dreading it and being so old but in reality, I'm good.

The day came and went without much fanfare. Well, except for 30 balloons staked in my yard that magically appeared overnight. I still haven't figured out who is responsible for that. People kept slowing down all day, I think they thought we were having a garage sale or something. Ha!

Anyway, I feel the same. It was pretty much a regular day except I got to take a nap and while I napped the Husband and the Boy went and got me cards and flowers. We went to supper as a family and then got a DQ blizzard cake. Of course since it was my birthday they took out all of the fat and calories and I had a nice big slice. :) My big gift was a combined Mother's day/Birthday present. I got to pick out some new running shoes since the last pair had seen too many miles. They are really great and I took them for a spin around the trails at the Capitol yesterday afternoon.

I am blessed to have another year on this earth to spend with my family and friends and I look forward to all this decade has to offer.Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-76463077216653279952009-05-06T09:15:00.002-05:002009-05-06T09:21:11.184-05:00Shrink into Summer Weigh In-EEK!

Alright, I knew this was going to be a bad week. Could be worse but, of course, could have been better.

The Numbers:
UP 3.1#

Wow, that was hard to type for the world to see. Back on track though. I won't hit my 30 by 30 goal unless I get some sort of stomach bug in the next 2 days. ;) I am going to see where I am on Saturday the 9th and adjust the due date accordingly. Most likely it will be May 27th which is the day we leave for our family vacation.

Onward and upward (or should I say downward?)Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-36511571959445210532009-05-05T10:38:00.003-05:002009-05-05T10:45:52.374-05:00VacationWhy is it that your life is so wonderful while you are on vacation and then you get home and...WHAMO!!!???

I had a wonderful time down in Arizona with my girlfriends. We sat in the sun, played in the pool, shopped, and laughed until we cried. The sunshine replenished my vitamin D and I really do feel better now. Thank you so much to B, T, & L. Love you ladies!

Yesterday it was back to the same ol' same ol'. The weather is turning nice here though. Although I will be de-programming my kids for weeks I think. Too much Gma and Gpa time. ;) This was evidenced by the Boy's answer to my innocent question when we were leaving my mom and dad's house on Sunday.

Me: Did you both have a good time at Gma & Gpa's?
Boy: Yeah, until YOU GUYS got here.
Me: Okay then.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-70378567197140411852009-04-29T09:42:00.003-05:002009-04-29T09:49:47.966-05:00Shrink into Summer-end of week 5 (I think)

Well, I haven't weighed in since April 8th. The next Wednesday was April 15th and well I went on a mental and physical break. (I LOVE WHAT I DO, just the last couple of weeks of the season drive me batty) I have been weighing myself on our bathroom scale and the numbers have been going up a bit. I have tried to get back on track the last 3-4 days. I got on the my "official" scale (my wii fit board) yesterday.

Are you ready for this...
DOWN .9
HOLY CRAP! I was totally not expecting that. :)

That makes me 3.9# away from my 30 by 30 goal which is creeping up on me in just about 10 days. The bad thing is that I am headed on a girls' trip today. We are ready for some sunshine and cocktails by the pool.

So that's my story. I am trying to get myself back into the swing of things. :)Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-8627005936889067152009-04-24T11:33:00.003-05:002009-04-24T11:38:43.195-05:00Baby DreamI had the weirdest baby dream last night. I dreamt we had another baby girl. Thing was we couldn't figure out a name. I'm not sure how long after the birth this was occuring but we were out to dinner with Husband's family. I kept throwing out all these weird names that I would never consider. Not that they aren't great names, just not my style. When Husband and I finally agreed on a name we couldn't agree on which really weird spelling to use. Seriously...something I would never do either.

I think in the end we wound up going with one of our 2 fallback names, but I have no idea which one.

So do you think I have a touch of baby fever or what? ;) All in good time....All in God's time.Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-8689687585877510442009-04-22T10:06:00.006-05:002009-04-22T10:18:31.716-05:00Before and After
Christie over at Baby Tea Leaves is having a before and after party. I am up 1.3#. Not a huge shock. Disappointing, yes, but not a shock. I am once again back in the 190s and I am 5.7# away from my first goal. The "deadline" for that goal is May 9th.

My mom will be watching and critiquing everything I put into my mouth this weekend. Hopefully that will keep me from over-indulging in the cheesy potatoes and chocolate eggs. :) (Oh and deviled eggs too) Alright, now I'm just hungry. Great. ;)

This week I just want to not completely blow all of my hard work. I am doing better with the water consumption. Ugh.

There I said it. It is out there for the bloggy world to see. (Well the few people that read me.)

I cruised along being so committed for 2 1/2 months. Then I completely lost motivation. I am really not sure where it went. I kept up the workouts 3-4 times per week but I really couldn't tell you the last time I actually tracked my points and stayed within my daily allowance. It's like my stomach has been a big black hole that never fills up. I've been making terrible choices and I can feel it in my body. I'm not gaining any weight back but I still have roughly 5lbs to go to get to my 30 by 30 goal and that is creeping up on me.

Pity party...table for one please.Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-48041598863816859122009-04-04T20:12:00.003-05:002009-04-04T20:14:59.889-05:00Sisterhood Giveaway!Check out the giveaway from the lovelies at The Sisterhood.
http://shrinkingjeans.net/2009/04/one-more-mile-giveaway/

Check out One More Mile. We got what we needed and checked out. Then we went over to the pharmacy that's located in the store to get some Calmoseptine ointment. (It's usually used in nursing homes, but we use it for really really bad diaper rash) I asked for the tube of it and it turns out that they stock it on the shelves now. They used to have it behind the counter and you had to pay the pharmacy for it.

Anyway, they grab a tube for us and I go back to the checkout lines to pay for it. The checkout lady grabs the tube and says, "just the toothpaste?" (She didn't really look at it) The Girl proceeds to announce to her and the entire store, "NO, it for my BUTT, it has an ouchie!" You could tell it took everything the checkout lady had not to burst out laughing. Then she notices that the Girl has her coat on backwards. (Yeah, that's the new thing in our house. Whatever, I don't fight the clothes battle.)

I think it might be awhile before I go back to that store.Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-61660171740792353612009-03-25T11:56:00.002-05:002009-03-25T11:58:50.402-05:0010%WOOHOO! Get back to tracking my points on WW.com

Here we go!!
Starting challenge weight: 189.8# (by the way, that is 4.8 lbs from my 30 by 30 goal and I have until May 9th)

Edited at 11:50am central time to put in today's official weight
Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-28818568210643429082009-03-19T10:39:00.002-05:002009-03-19T10:48:46.653-05:00Kiss Me I'm Shrinking-Final Weigh In

It is the final week of the challenge over at The Sisterhood so here are my final numbers.

Weight loss for week three= .5#

For the challenge:
Starting weight=196
Ending weight=192.2
Total Loss= 3.8#

My goal for the challenge was 4 pounds. I didn't quite get it, but I am ok with that. I have stepped up my workouts quite a bit the last 2-3 weeks to get points for our Health Challenge at work. Going into the final week my team pulled ahead by 20. It will all be over on Sunday and then I can go back to a more reasonable workout routine. I can't do 6 days a week or more. I won't stop all together, obviously. I will just scale it back to 4-5 days and I won't beat myself up if I don't get that.

I had a dr appt the other day. I have been on meds for my blood pressure for nearly 2 years now. Even with the meds my blood pressure was 125-135 over 85-90. At my dr appt the other day my bp was 114/74. I was so excited and my dr was all but jumping up and down. Hopefully when I get more weight off, she will let me start weaning myself off the meds to see what happens. I would LOVE that!! I am way too young to be on them.

Thanks for reading! :)Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-6438963130305912792009-03-11T10:22:00.002-05:002009-03-11T10:31:23.322-05:00Kiss Me I'm Shrinking-Week 2 weigh in

Week 2 of 3 is gone. No change this week. Oh well. I am doing a lot of exercising to get points for our health challenge at work, so I am hoping that some fat is turning to muscle. ;)

The mini challenge this week was to get all 5 servings of fruits and veggies at least 5 out of the 7 days. I am proud to say I did do that.

My goal for this challenge was a total of 4lbs so I need to lose about another pound to meet my goal. I am also about 7.5lbs away from my 30 by 30 goal.

Update on our Health Challenge at work:
My team and the team in 1st had been neck and neck until last week. Then somehow they got ahead of us by 150 points. Well, we kicked it into gear this last week and we are now only down by 60 points. To quote my husband, "you girls are just psycho enough to pull this off." Not sure if that is a compliment or not, but we'll take it. GOOD WORK BETH & TRACIE!! We can do it!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-91565273398318838232009-03-04T12:15:00.002-06:002009-03-04T12:18:55.577-06:00Kiss Me I'm Shrinking-Week 1 weigh in

Week 1 turned out better than I had thought it would.

Down 3.3#

Current weight: 192.7 (almost ready to say good bye to the 190s!!!)

In all fairness I think the weight I had last week was due to the monthly visit of your friend and mine so most of this week's weight was more than likely just bloat.

But it has given me this.....

Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17573075447557084026noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885427826935259948.post-20723433732117605382009-03-02T12:01:00.003-06:002009-03-02T12:03:13.495-06:00BornFit Workout WearCheck out these awesome workout clothes!
